While taking a break to allow Tony's voice to heal, Richie & Tony kept writing songs. After writing over 50 songs in 6 months, and allowing Tony's voice to heal. 1991 was filled with meeting various musicians and working with them in various things. For example, 7th heaven tried to see what it would be like to have two lead singers - Tony DiGiulio and Darryl Kathan. (Richie met Darryl working at Handy Andy) Most of the year had shows where Darryl would join 7th heaven on stage to sing with Tony.

In the fall the band's line-up was not fully formed anymore. The future was very un-sure for the band and while trying to re-work the band, they were asked to perform at Northern Illinois University (Diversions Hall), so Richie, Tony and Dan put a quick line-up together asking friend Duane Flowers and Don Walker to join the band for a single show.

The winter came and Richie met up with Dino Manzella (who he later learned he was releated to) and started producing bands at his recording studio. While there Dino came up with a idea to record a Christmas CD using Chicago rock bands. Richie agreed and wrote the song "Merry Christmas in Chicago" for the CD (as well as 7th heaven doing "Jingle Bells" on that CD). The song would feature numerious hand-picked singers that Hofherr wanted on the song, one of them being Nick Cox form the Chicago band Theater. Nick and Richie took a instant likeing to one another. Richie had seen Nick perform one night with Theater at the Gateway Theater and heard his high voice and good guitar playing and knew he would make a great impact to the 7th heaven sound that Hofherr desired.

After recording the Christmas song, Nick heard himself all over Chicago radio when almost all rock radio stations in Chicago were playing the song on full rotation. Nick left Theater and called Richie to wish him Merry Christmas and that lead to Nick joining 7ht heaven.

At the same time, Stephen Jensen, who just left the band Barracuda, was talking with Richie about playing in 7th heaven. There was a short time where Richie was jamming with Stephen Jensen, Pete Haas, Matt Pazol and Darryl Kathan to see if something could come out of the jam sessions. What came out of them was Stephen joining 7th heaven on Bass (he played guitar in barricuda).

On the Ridgewood HS show, Mike Herwig and Scott started working with 7th heaven.

Fun Fact: 1991 was the first time 7th heaven ever played a medley live... it was at the two festivals in August: Taste of Roselle and Augustfest.
