Much of 1994 was spent re-building Tony's voice and rebuilding the band. Richie and Tony spent most of the year buidling Tony's back up as well as writing another huge batch of new songs. While the band was down, Richie got a job working at Guitar Center where he met Alec John Such of the band Bon Jovi. Alec was in town to do a clinic for Gibson Guitars. While here Richie got to be good friends with Aelc, having him over to his house and showing him what 7th heaven was all about. Richie made a cassette tape of 40 songs for Alec to listen to when he got back to New Jersey. Alec taught Richie a lot about the music buisness from a angle never seen before, after all Bon Jovi is one of the biggest rock bands ever in America. Alec got back to New Jesery and called Richie a week after he was in Chicago to tell him he loved the CD and was amazed on how many good songs were on the tape. Alec asked the band to write a very heavy modern song. That night Richie and Tony wrote "The Prayer" for Alec and sent it to him two days later.
