1995 was a very interesting time in the band's history.. many of the clubs the band played had since gone out of buisness (china clubs, thirsty whale, avalon, etc..) and many of the bands started to go away. The whole Chicago music scene seemed to take a turn for the worse and that left 7th heaven with a search for new places to play. Many of the clubs that were booking rock bands wanted the band to not only play for three hours a night (when the band was used to 30-45 min. sets), but to also play cover songs, which was something the band rarely did. 7th heaven was a original band with good original songs and thought that playing covers would de-value the bands worth.
Because the band wanted to continue playing live, it agreed to learn some cover songs and add them within the set of original songs and play for three hours. But what happened next was the band started making money (something most original-only bands don't get much of.. money). Getting paid to do something the band loved started a interesting chain of events.. now the band could afford to creat marketing pieces to promote shows and tapes to give to fans of thier music.
While performing at River West in Chicago on August 26 the band was approached by Jay Whitehouse of Waterdog Records. He said "I just saw your set.. there has to be at least three major hits in your music". He was VERY interested in managing the band with James Young (JY) of the band "Styx". Richie informed Jay that Alec John Such of Bon Jovi was also considering managing the band and wondered if it would be possible for everyone to join forces to manage 7th heaven.
At the September 22 show at Totos with the band Warrant, JY of Styx and Alec from Bon Jovi came out to see the band perform live and make sure it could hold it's own as a valid live act. After that show everyone decided that 7th heaven was ready to go to the next level and the management team called "No Fear Management" was formed to manage 7th heaven. "No Fear Management" consisted of Alec John Such (Bon Jovi), James Young (Styx) and Jay Whitehouse of Waterdog Records. It wasn't until almost another year until the contracts were drawn up and put in stone.
While waiting for the contracts to go thru the lawyers, JY came by the bands rehearsal and answered a bunch of questions about the music biz. The band continued to play shows wile patiently waiting for the business side of things to move along.
