2001 continued the very fast pace that the band was going.
In early 2001 VH1 called and asked 7th heaven to submit a audition to be on the TV show "Cover Wars" which featured Paul Shaffer from the David Letterman Show. The show was a game show on testing the ability of cover bands to play a song right off the cuff of suggestion. (i.e. - play The Beatles Twist and Shout in a Dance style). At that same time the VH1 show "Bands on the run" was doing well and 7th heaven was being considered for season #2 as the band already did what those bands did (travel the country in a van and trailer playing shows and promoting themselves).

After doing the audition for the VH1 "Cover Wars" show the band was asked to be on the very first episode and was asked to come to New York. The band, against Richie's wishes, voted to blow off the VH1 opportunity and it never happened. The band felt 7th heaven would only be known as a cover band if it did that show. Richie had to call VH1 and tell them thanks but no thanks.

In the fall the band self-imploaded.

Because the band was so self-destructive Richie made the decision to end that line-up before it killed the bands name.
Most people around the band felt this was a bad move since the band was drawing well and well liked by fans and clubs, but it turned out to be the right decision.

Fun Fact: 7th heaven dressed as Nuns for Halloween
